Course Overview:
The OPITO approved ERRV FRC Boatman course is designed to meet the initial emergency response training requirements for an ERRV FRC boatman. Further vessel specific training is required.
Course Content:
The course is to equip the learner with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform the role of ERRV Crew Fast Rescue Craft Boatman
By the end of the course, the learner will understand:
- Types of rescue craft and their core roles and operating principles
- Hazards related to launching the rescue craft
- Casualty Rescue Methods and Associated Dangers
- Actions in the event of a capsize
By the end of the course the learner will perform:
- Basic Seamanship and Housekeeping
- Preparing the Rescue Craft
- Launching the Rescue Craft
- Casualty Rescue
- Transferring casualties to the ERRV
Entry Requirements:
Attendance on this training course is open to learners who have a valid OPITO approved ERRV Crew Initial Training Shipboard Operations (ITSO) certificate or reassessment to an equivalent standard through the Ongoing On-board Development and Training Programme OODTP.
Note: A current and valid Advanced Medical Aider may attend this course if they do not possess a valid ITSO certificate. However, in this instance they have to have a current ERRV OODTP for Masters and Crew (OPITO Code 6190)
Certification(s):
An OPITO Approved Certificate will be issued upon successfully completing the course, valid for 3 years.
Note: Individuals and employers should recognise that this is only part of a broader training/assessment programme as OPITO approved FRC Boatmen are continuously trained and assessed based on the OPITO approved Ongoing Onboard Development and Training Programme for ERRV Masters and Crews standard.
If the expiry date on the learner’s previous certificate is within 3 months prior of the course enrolment date then the date of the new certificate should correspond with the expiry date of the existing/previous certificate unless stated otherwise by the Duty Holder or Asset Owner or Operator.
