STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship Refresher Course Overview
The Manila Amendments bring a number of changes and one of the most significant are the STCW revalidation requirements. The STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship Refresher is an intensive course which allows those who have completed their Medical Care Onboard Ship training within the last 5 years, to update their skills and knowledge.

This course is designed for seafarers who are designated to take charge of medical care on board ship. It equips you with a sufficient level of knowledge to be able to take immediate effective action in the case of accidents or illnesses likely to occur.
The course provides a mixture of both practical and theoretical training including:
- Care of the casualty
- Aspects of nursing
- Alcohol and drug abuse
- Dental care
- Gynaecology, pregnancy and childbirth
- Medical care of rescued persons
- Death at sea
- Disease prevention
- Record keeping
Candidates must have received approved or recognised training in Proficiency in Medical Care Onboard Ship, or hold a certificate of Updated Proficiency in Medical Care Onboard Ship.
Upon successful completion of this STCW revalidation course, all candidates are issued with an updated STCW certificate.
