Clyde Training Solutions given MCA approval for further STCW Updating Courses

Clyde Training Solutions (CTS) has achieved certification from the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) to run the following two STCW Updating / Refresher courses on-site:

Previously run in conjunction with partners, these courses will now be undertaken at our CTS Training Centre in Glasgow.

STCW Revalidation, or refresher training, is a requirement of the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments, requiring seafarers to refresh their training every 5 years.

CTS are now able to substantially increase the availability of standalone courses, as well as our STCW Revalidation Training Block – Route 1 package, containing the following elements:

  1. Updated Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (U-PST)(Mandatory)
  2. Updated Proficiency in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention(Mandatory)
  3. Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Route 1
  4. STCW Updated Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (U-PFRB) Route 1
  5. STCW Updated Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (U-PSCRB) Route 1

In addition to the two mandatory elements, our package has been designed to allow delegates the choice of bolting on any or all of the remaining course elements.

Commenting on the approval, CTS General Manager, Kris McDonald, said: “This is an important step for CTS as it allows us to offer seafarers a one-stop shop when completing their revalidation training.

“We have always been confident that CTS offers the highest quality of training through both resources and instructors, at a competitive price, but we also recognise that delegates wish for training to take place where possible on one site, minimising their time spent and increasing confidence that it is taking place in a COVID secure environment.

“We also recognise the significance of this approval and availability as we enter a year in which the vast majority of seafarers will be undertaking their STCW Refresher Training as part of the 5-year cycle, and we feel we are best placed to now meet this demand.

“This also marks the first step in what are substantial plans to grow our service offering in 2021 and beyond, and we look forward to announcing these developments in the coming months.”
