Blog : Why Should You Choose CTS for GWO Working at Height Training

The opening of our dedicated GWO Renewables Training Centre in September 2021 is a significant milestone for Clyde Training Solutions (CTS). It’s also important for new and existing wind renewables sector workers based in Central Scotland.

Firstly, no training provider in the Central Belt previously offered delegates all of the mandatory Global Wind Organisation (GWO) training elements in one single location. Those elements are Working at Height, Manual Handling, First Aid, Fire Awareness and Sea Survival training.

Secondly, delegates undertaking often week-long training as a Wind Turbine Technician, or other associated wind sector support roles, faced travelling to the North-East of Scotland or England. Now, from our Clydebank base, only 20 mins from Glasgow City Centre with ample on-site parking, delegates, travelling by train or car, no longer need to spend long nights away from home.

Moreover, all of our GWO certification courses, including Advanced Rescue Training, are delivered by industry personnel. Most importantly, they’ve spent years working in the wind renewables sector so they fully understand the need for training like this.

Delegates on our GWO basic safety training courses will develop:

  • Awareness of the types of hazards encountered whilst working in the wind sector & ways to control and mitigate them
  • Basic knowledge and confidence in emergency response procedures and the appropriate use of PPE

We estimate delegates will need around 40 hours to complete our GWO courses on a standalone, module by module basis. They also have the opportunity to bundle the modules into package courses, which we’ve listed below:

GWO module certifications are valid for 24 months & can be renewed up to two months prior to expiring. The benefit with our GWO package courses is not having to go through modules individually. Delegates save time by completing the relevant package course, finishing trainer sooner.

We understand how daunting this training can be, particularly for new entrants to the GWO Working at Height element. With that in mind, we have developed a special Virtual Reality training programme. This allows delegates to undertake a virtual tour of the training, before completing the real thing.
