STCW Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Route 2 Course Overview
This STCW Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Route 2 covers Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code (paragraph 5) which states that ‘Seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 4 in advanced fire fighting shall be required, every 5 years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence, to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of Table A VI/3.’
Please note, there are 2 routes for this advanced maritime training:
Route 1 – you can enroll in this course if you hold an existing Advanced Fire Fighting certificate and have maintained the required standard of competence by undertaking onboard training and gaining experience, for all competencies listed in the self-declaration form.
Route 2 – is also available to seafarers holding an STCW certificate (or equivalent) but it’s designed for those who have not completed the required training onboard ship.
By the end of this Route 2 course candidates will be able to do the following:
- Control fire fighting operations onboard ship
- Organise and control fire fighting parties
- Inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment
- Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire
Proof of completing the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting training course or equivalent is required.
Upon successful completion, candidates are issued with an MCA approved STCW Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting certificate.
