GWO Working at Height & Manual Handling

GWO Working at Height & Manual Handling
GWO Working at Height and Manual Handling Training Package Course Overview:
The aim of our combined GWO Working At Height & Manual Handling training course is to guide delegates, through both theoretical and practical training, on how best to use basic PPE & work safely in remote wind turbine environments within the GWO Renewables sector.
Furthermore, the course will promote positive manual handling and encourage proper ergonomic behaviour. We will also drive delegates to consider alternatives to manual handling through careful planning, and guide them on how to perform Manual Handling tasks in a safe manner, within a wind turbine generator or nacelle.

Course Content:
The BST Working at Height with Manual Module shall ensure that:
- The delegates are able to demonstrate knowledge of hazards and risks associated with working at height specific to a wind turbine generator (WTG) or Wind Turbine Nacelle
- The delegates are able to demonstrate understanding of current national and regional legislation regarding Working at Height
- The delegates are able to demonstrate correct identification of PPE, including identification of European/Global standard markings e.g. harness, hard hat, lanyards, etc.
- The delegates are able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to correctly perform pre-use inspection, service, store and correctly fit relevant PPE, e.g. harness, fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arrest devices and work positioning lanyards
- The delegates are able to demonstrate correct use of the relevant PPE, e.g. harnesses fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arresters and work positioning lanyards. This includes correct identification of anchor points and correct conduct on ladder
- The delegates are able to demonstrate correct use of evacuation devices
- The delegates are able to demonstrate how to approach rescue situations in WTGs and use rescue equipment efficiently
- The delegates are able to demonstrate a problem-solving approach to Manual Handling in a wind turbine environment
- The delegates are able to demonstrate Manual Handling risk reduction techniques
- The delegates are able to identify aspects of their job tasks that could increase their risk of developing muscular/skeletal injuries
- The delegates are able to demonstrate understanding of the importance of carrying out work duties in a safe and sound manner in accordance with the legislative requirements of their geographic work location
- The delegates are able to demonstrate understanding of safe practices of Manual Handling, including the correct handling of equipment
- The delegates are able to identify signs and symptoms of injuries related to poor Manual Handling techniques and have knowledge of reporting methods
Note: This course is not intended to test the participant’s capability and aptitude for working at height, i.e. it is not a test for fear of heights.
Virtual Reality Training:
Integrated as a cutting-edge, optional training enhancement, the short VR simulator gives both new starts and experienced workers in the industry the chance to experience working at height in an onshore turbine.
Our simulated environment will allow the delegate to experience hands on the turbine architecture, moving up and down the turbine as well as all the safety practices required prior to working at height. Users will experience as close to real life as possible, a truly immersive feeling of working at height, operating the safety equipment and checking and utilising PPE.
Finally, users will also experience potential hazards they may encounter in a real life turbine and will be required to take the necessary actions to limit and remove the hazard and then safely perform an emergency egress from the nacelle.
The virtual reality working at height experience is an optional training enhancement to your GWO working at height booking. Delegates do not need to take part in the experience, and it is only offered should the delegate wish to participate.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be fit and able to complete all aspects of training.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course delegates will receive a GWO approved Working at Height and Manual Handling Certificate.
