Course Overview:
The course has been laid out following the guidance of the I.M.O. model course (1.27) for ECDIS (2010 ed.) in compliance with the requirements of A-II/1, A-II/2 and A-II/3 of the STCW code (as revised Manila 2010) to allow serving officers and navigation trainees to gain the required background knowledge of ECDIS with regard to the legislation, limitations and safe use of ECDIS as a primary source of navigational information.
Course Content:
The 40-hour course will be conducted over a period of 5 days consisting of a series of short lectures, demonstrations and practical ECDIS use, in both static and dynamic simulated exercise modes.
On completion of this course the trainee should obtain:
- Knowledge of the capability and limitations of ECDIS operations
- Proficiency in the operation, interpretation and analysis of information obtained from ECDIS
- Management of operational procedures, system files and data contained within ECDIS
Teaching and Assessment: The course has a combination of both theoretical and practical teaching with assessment at the end of the course.
Entry Requirements:
Delegates should hold a deck certificate of competency.
Certification(s):
Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) issued under MCA approval.
