Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Oil, Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations
This training is to give seafarers the essential education and training in tanker cargo operations to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out by the IMO Convention and Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW Code). Table A-V/1-1–1 & A-V/1-2-1
Training involves the following three elements:
- Understand the properties of oil, chemical and liquefied gas and the associated hazards.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply health, safety and environmental precautions and measures when working on tankers.
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out safe tanker cargo operations.
Certificate of Proficiency (COP)
Students must complete training in Tanker Firefighting set out in tables A-V/1-1-1 and A-V/1-2-1 of the STCW convention and code 1978 as amended and be in possession of the approved certificate for the issue of an MCA approved Basic Training for Oil, Chemical and Liquid Gas Tanker Operations certificate.
Certificate of Training (COT)
Students attending MCA approved Basic Training for Oil, Chemical and Liquid Gas Tanker Operations course without the pre-requisite Tanker Firefighting certification will be awarded a Certificate of Training only. This certificate does not meet the standards to comply with STCW A-V when applying for Dangerous Cargo Endorsement.
