Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations
This training is to give seafarers the essential education and training in tanker cargo operations to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out by the IMO Convention and Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW Code). Table A-V/1 1-2
- Understand the physical and chemical properties of oil and the hazards and control measures associated with carrying oil on board tankers.
- Understand what is involved in the safe operation and monitoring of cargo on board an oil tanker.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply health, safety and environmental precautions when working on oil tankers.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform and monitor safe oil tanker cargo operations in compliance with legislative requirements.
Those undertaking this training must meet the full requirements for MCA Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, relevant to the endorsement required as listed in section 4.2 or 4.3 of MIN 535 (M), including Tanker Fire Fighting and evidence of at least 3 months’ seagoing service on the applicable Tanker type.
NOTE - Certificate of Proficiency (COP) will be issued only to ratings and trainees.
All other ranks will be issued with Certificate of Training (COT). The Certificate of Proficiency (COP) will be awarded by the MCA once applied for by the delegate.
