Advanced Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations

Course Overview:

This course is to give seafarers the essential education and training in tanker cargo operations to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out by the IMO Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW Code). Table A-V/1-2-2

Course Content:

  • Understand the physical and chemical properties of liquefied gas and the hazards and control measures associated with carrying liquefied gas on board a tanker.
  • Understand what is involved in the safe operation and monitoring of cargo on board a liquefied gas tanker.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply health, safety and environmental precautions when working on a liquefied gas tanker.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform and monitor safe liquefied gas tanker cargo operations in compliance with legislative requirements.

Required Qualifications

Those undertaking this training must meet the full requirements for MCA Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations, relevant to the endorsement required as listed in section 4.2 or 4.3 of MIN 535 (M), including Tanker Fire Fighting and evidence of at least 3 months’ seagoing service on the applicable Tanker type.

NOTE - Certificate of Proficiency (COP) will be issued only to ratings and trainees.

All other ranks will be issued with Certificate of Training (COT). The Certificate of Proficiency (COP) will be awarded by the MCA once applied for by the delegate.
